Overview

Welcome to Brainwidth. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data. This policy explains what information the Brainwidth app and the brainwidth.app website use, how they use it, and your choices.

The short version:

There is no Brainwidth account, and no Brainwidth server stores your app data. Your Brainwidth data is stored on your iPhone.
We do not sell, rent or share your personal information, and the app contains no advertising, analytics or tracking code.
Auto Estimate runs on your device with Apple Intelligence.
If you connect Google, your iPhone talks directly to Google to sync your calendars and tasks.

Information you add

When you use Brainwidth, you may create or edit:

Events: titles, dates, times, locations, invitees, video-call links and notes
Tasks: titles, notes, due dates, priorities, subtasks, lists and links
Routines, goals and Brainwidth Collections
Brainwidth Scores for your events and tasks
Photos and files you attach to events and tasks
Your name, profile photo and app settings

This information is stored on your device and is not sent to us.

Data from Apple services

With your explicit permission, Brainwidth may access:

Calendars (EventKit): to show, create and update events in the calendars on your iPhone, including iCloud, Exchange and subscribed calendars.
Reminders: to sync your tasks with Apple Reminders.
Contacts: only when you choose to add invitees to an event.
Location (while using the app): to suggest nearby places when you search for a location. Searches use Apple Maps. Your location is not stored by Brainwidth.
Camera and photo library: to attach photos to events and tasks. Attachments stay on your device.
Notifications: to deliver the alerts you set. All notifications are created on your device.
Siri and Shortcuts: if you ask Siri or the Shortcuts app to add a task or open Brainwidth, Apple handles your request under Apple’s privacy policy and Brainwidth receives only the task details you asked for.

You can change any of these permissions at any time in your iPhone’s Settings.

Google Calendar and Google Tasks

Connecting Google is optional. If you turn on Google Calendar or Google Tasks sync, you sign in on Google’s own sign-in page. Brainwidth never sees your Google password.

Brainwidth requests access to your Google Calendars (the list of calendars, their settings and their events), your Google Tasks lists and tasks, and your Google account email address, so it can show, create, edit and delete the events and tasks you choose to sync.
The sign-in tokens Google issues are stored in your iPhone’s Keychain so sync keeps working. They are not sent to us.
Calendar and task data travels directly between your iPhone and Google over encrypted connections.
Data from Google is used only to provide sync inside Brainwidth. It is not used for advertising and is not shared with anyone else.

Brainwidth’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

You can disconnect at any time by turning off Google sync in Brainwidth, or by removing Brainwidth at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Auto Estimate and personalization

If you turn on Auto Estimate, Brainwidth suggests a Brainwidth Score from an event or task’s details using Apple Intelligence on your iPhone. On devices without Apple Intelligence, a built-in formula on your device makes the suggestion. Event and task details are not sent to us or to any other server to be scored.

When you adjust a suggested score, Brainwidth stores that correction on your device and uses it to improve future suggestions. You can reset these corrections in Settings.

How information is used

Brainwidth uses the information above only to:

Provide the app’s features, including your capacity, insights and dashboard
Suggest Brainwidth Scores
Send the notifications you set
Sync with Apple Calendar, Apple Reminders, Google Calendar and Google Tasks when you turn it on
Show your schedule in the widget and on Apple Watch

Storage and security

Brainwidth-specific data (scores, routines, goals, collections, attachments and settings) is stored on your device using Apple’s storage frameworks. It is protected by your device passcode and iOS encryption, and it is never transmitted to a Brainwidth server. The only thing our web server stores is the launch list described under “This website”.

This data does not sync between your devices. It is included in your iPhone backups if you use iCloud Backup or back up to a computer.

The widget reads the same data through an App Group on your device. The Apple Watch app receives a copy of your events, tasks, routines and goals directly from your iPhone and keeps it on the watch; it is removed together with the app.

Data retention

App data is kept until you delete it in the app or delete the app.
Events and to-dos synced to Apple Calendar, Apple Reminders, Google Calendar or Google Tasks stay in those services under their own policies.
Backups may contain older copies of app data until those backups are deleted.
Launch-list addresses are kept until the launch email has been sent, then deleted within 30 days, or sooner if you ask.
Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to help you.

We do not share, sell, rent or trade your personal information. The only data that leaves your device is what you choose to sync with Apple or Google, which is governed by their privacy policies.

The Brainwidth app does not:

Track you across other apps or websites
Include analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDKs
Share data with advertising networks or data brokers
Build profiles of you for marketing

Brainwidth does not collect data that would be considered tracking under Apple’s App Tracking Transparency framework.

This website

brainwidth.app uses Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they read. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser. We use this only in aggregate to improve the site. You can opt out with your browser’s privacy settings or Google’s opt-out add-on.

If you join the launch list, we store your email address, the date you signed up and which form on the site you used, in a private file on our web host outside the public website. To limit repeat submissions, a hashed copy of your IP address is kept for about ten minutes, then dropped. We use the list only to tell you when Brainwidth is available, and we don’t share it or add you to any other mailing. To be removed, email info@brainwidth.app.

The contact forms on this site don’t send anything themselves. They open your own mail app with a message addressed to us, and you decide whether to send it.

Your choices and rights

View, edit or delete your data at any time in the app
Turn off any permission in your iPhone’s Settings
Disconnect Google at any time
Delete everything by following the steps on Delete your data

If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or California, you have additional rights under the GDPR and CCPA, including access, correction, deletion and portability. Because we don’t hold your app data, most requests can be handled directly on your device; for anything else, contact us at info@brainwidth.app.

App Store privacy labels

When Brainwidth is on the App Store, its privacy label will read “Data Not Collected”: nothing is used to track you and nothing is shared with third parties. If that ever changes, we will update this policy before the change ships.

Children’s privacy

Brainwidth is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
