Introduction
Welcome to Brainwidth. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your personal information.
Information We Collect
Brainwidth is designed with privacy as a priority. We do not collect, transmit, or sell your personal data to third parties. All data processing happens locally on your device or through Apple's secure ecosystem.
Data You Provide
- Tasks: title, description, due dates, priority, categories
- Events: titles, dates, times, locations, attendees, notes
- Routines: daily and weekly habit information
- User preferences and app settings
Data from Apple Services
With your explicit permission, Brainwidth may access:
- Calendar data (via EventKit) - To sync and manage your events across your Apple devices
- Reminders data - To sync tasks with Apple Reminders
- Contacts - Only accessed when you choose to add attendees to calendar events
- Location (temporary, "When In Use" only) - Used exclusively to provide nearby location suggestions when you search for a location while creating events or tasks. Your location is never stored and is only used during the search session via MapKit
- Camera and Photo Library - To attach photos to tasks and events. All photos are stored locally on your device only
Data from Third-Party Services
With your explicit permission, Brainwidth may access:
- Google Calendar - To sync your Google Calendar events with Brainwidth. Authentication is handled securely via OAuth 2.0, and we only access calendar data you explicitly grant permission to sync
- Google Tasks - To sync your Google Tasks with Brainwidth. All communication with Google services uses secure, encrypted connections. We do not store your Google credentials
Data accessed from Google services is used solely to provide synchronization functionality within Brainwidth. We do not share this data with any other third parties, and it is protected by the same security measures as all other app data.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information solely to:
- Provide core app functionality
- Calculate cognitive load estimates
- Send local notifications
- Sync with Apple services (Calendar, Reminders, iCloud)
- Personalize your experience over time
Data Storage and Security
All Brainwidth-specific data is stored locally on your device using Apple's secure storage frameworks. This data is:
- Protected by your device's passcode and biometric authentication
- Encrypted at rest using iOS's standard encryption
- Never transmitted to external servers
- Backed up to iCloud (if you have iCloud Backup enabled in iOS Settings)
Widget Data Sharing
Brainwidth includes a home screen widget that displays your tasks, events, and routines. Data is shared between the main app and widget using Apple's App Groups technology. This sharing occurs entirely on your device—no data leaves your device to enable widget functionality.
Cognitive Load Personalization
Brainwidth learns from your feedback to improve cognitive load estimates over time. When you rate how difficult a task or event felt, this preference data is stored locally on your device and used only to customize predictions for you. No personalization data is transmitted or shared.
Data Retention
Your data is retained as follows:
- Local app data - Retained until you manually delete it within the app or delete the app entirely
- App deletion - All local Brainwidth data is automatically removed when you delete the app from your device
- Calendar and Reminders - Data synced to Apple Calendar and Reminders remains in those apps according to Apple's data retention policies
- iCloud Backup - If iOS backups are enabled, your local app data may be included in your encrypted iCloud backup
Third-Party Sharing and Tracking
We do not share, sell, rent, or trade your personal information with third parties.
The only "sharing" that occurs is with Apple's native services (Calendar, Reminders, iCloud) and only when you explicitly grant permission. This data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
No Tracking
Brainwidth does not:
- Track you across other apps or websites
- Collect data linked to your identity
- Use analytics or advertising SDKs
- Share data with advertising networks or data brokers
- Create user profiles for marketing purposes
This means Brainwidth does not collect any data that would be used for tracking under Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework.
Your Rights
You have complete control over your data:
- View, edit, or delete any data within the app
- Revoke permissions anytime through iOS Settings
- Request data deletion by submitting a request
- Export your data through Apple's native export features
App Store Privacy Labels
Our App Store privacy labels accurately reflect our privacy practices. We have declared to Apple that:
- Data Not Collected - We do not collect data that is linked to you or used to track you
- Data Not Used for Tracking - No data is used to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies
- Data Not Shared - We do not share your data with third-party partners or data brokers
